Vacuum Advise
I'm looking at getting a new vacuum. Ours sucks, or rather doesn't suck and that's why it sucks. We've purchased 2 vacuums since we've been married and I'm about done buying one every couple of years. Does anyone have any recommendations? Ask around, or get back to me with you advise please!

Oh Marci, we have a Dyson. We have had it for about 5 years and it still works wonders! You can use it on nearly any surface, it doesn't loose suction, it's light weight, it's easy to dump out, and has tons of other neat features. Sorry to sound like a vacuum salesman, but I stand by my Dyson. They make a heck of a product. We got an exclusive model from Costco for a relatively good price. You should check out their website at www.dyson.com for more details and models. They really make vacuums like it's nobody's business. Good luck shopping.
When we moved up to WA we tought we bought a new vacuum because we have been using the same one that Alicia's parents deeded to us when we got married. It is 10+ years old, is an Electrolux, and sucks pretty good. It doesn't really have any features, but works good. Since that vacuum was still in Vegas, and we were here, we had to buy one. We bought a Dyson. It sucked really well, but there were a few things we didn't like about it. It seemed off balance, like it was always ready to fall backwards when it was standing upright between uses. Also, the hose feature didn't stretch nearly as far as it claimed. On the other hand, the bagless feature is really nice, and it empties out easily. We ended up taking it back though because of the falling over issue.
We then bought a Kenmore something or other; it is Consumer Reports #1 rated vacuum. We used it, and it sucked like a champ! Alicia got a box of Christmas goodies with TONS of packing peanuts in it. She let the kids play with them; kept the kids entertained for over 2 hours! You should've seen the mess when they were done though. The Kenmore picked the things right up though. The hose did clog, but became unclogged rather easily. We did however end up taking it back to because it was a rather heavy... no, VERY heavy vacuum. In the end, we are still using our 10+ year old Electrolux. Maybe one of these days, it will really suck (as opposed to suck as in suction) and we will be forced to buy and keep another kind.
Don't know that my two cents is going to help, but it sure was fun rambling!
So we are also in the market for a vacuum... I want a Dyson, Meaghan wants an Electrolux. I think we are probably going to go with the Electrolux. Check out www.cpoelectrolux.com. They sell refurbished vaccums that are essentially brand new with the same warranty as the new ones. The bonus is the vaccums are 1/2 price. You can get a $500 vaccum for $250. I love bargains. My mother-in-law has a Electrolux vacuum that is probably 20 years old and still works, so the quality is good.
Ditto to what Blaire said!
PS Are you crazy putting your email address out there... here comes junk mail.
